Business Photo Web Service
infoUSA
is pleased to announce the development of the industry’s first business photo database.
This database connects a digital storefront image with traditional data captured
by infoUSA.
The web service is an Internet based enterprise application that uses open, XML-based
standards and transport protocols to exchange data with a calling client. The system
allows the clients to query a database, and then use a web site to access the
appropriate photos.
How it works
Clients are issued a user name and password to access the system. Images may be
retrieved by entering the businesses unique infoUSA number. A URL is returned with the photo location.
Images can also be returned by which view is wanted (Close, Wide or Primary).
Thumbnails can be retrieved by entering the businesses unique
infoUSA number and which view is
wanted (Close, Wide or Primary). A URL is returned with the photo location. A user
name and password is not required.
Photos
The system will return a photo URL of the business. The images are .jpg and are
typically 1024 x 768 or 640 x 480. A thumbnail (170 x 128) is available for Internet
display applications. The default image is the “close up” but
infoUSA may collect multiple photos
of a business location including a “wide” view. Based on customer need, both photos
may be made available.
Behind the web service is a database that keeps track of each photo, the postal
address of the photo, the age of the photo, etc. The photos are matched to the business
by address. New photos are added daily and the database is completely refreshed
monthly to take advantage of business changes. The photos are associated with the
most current infoUSA
numbers.
infoUSA’s
goal is to collect one or more high-resolution storefront photos. The photos allow
the user to clearly identify the structure.
Usage Tracking
Every transaction made by a client will be tracked. Hits and misses are tracked
separately.
Internet Security
The photo URL has to be appended to the photo service address to gain access to
the photo. Photo URLs have a random number included to prevent spoofing or unauthorized
access. The Service is available with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption.
